چکیده

The half-life of a Kπ = 12+ isomer in 164Er has been measured to be 68(2) ns, and new decay pathways have been identified. These include highly K-forbidden γ-ray transitions directly to the ground-state rotational band, with reduced hindrance values that can be compared with those found for heavier nuclides. The new data support the interpretation that the level density is a key variable in determining K-forbidden transition rates. PACS numbers: 21.10.-k, 23.20.Lv, 27.70.+q

Discovery of a non-yrast K=8 isomer in Dy and the influence of competing K-mixing mechanisms on its highly forbidden decay

The Gd(Be,α3n)Dy reaction has been used to study high-spin states in Dy. Pulsed beam conditions were utilised for enhanced isomer sensitivity. An isomer at 2188.1(3) keV with a half-life of 8.3(3) μs has been discovered and assigned K= 8 with a 2-quasineutron configuration. Among eleven γ-ray decay branches, an E2, ∆K= 8 transition to the ground-state band was observed with a reduced hindrance ...

Structure and decay of a four-quasiparticle 15(-) isomer in 180Ta.

A four quasiparticle high-K isomer with a meanlife of 45~2! ms has been identified at 1451 keV in Ta, populated in the Yb(B,a3n! Ta reaction. The isomer decays into a rotational band which is associated with the two-quasiparticle 9 isomer at 75.3 keV. Analysis of the branching ratios within that band and the magnetic moment for the 9 isomer, supports the configuration assignment to the 9 isomer...

Triaxial nuclear shapes at high angular momentum

Shape is a fundamental property of atomic nuclei. The spherical ground-state equilibrium shapes of closed-shell ‘‘magic’’ nuclei give way to deformed, usually prolate shapes in the midshell regions. Although a variety of shapes may be found for excited nuclear states, the propensity for axial symmetry appears to be pervasive. Yet, there is a lack of suitable observables that are able to indicat...

Discovery of isomers in dyprosium, holmium and erbium isotopes with N=94 to 97

High-spin states in the 164 68Er96 region were studied using Be + Gd reactions. Pulsed beam conditions were exploited for enhanced sensitivity to delayed γ-ray transitions. New isomers were identified in Dy, Ho, Er and Er. The Er isomer is interpreted to decay by E1 transitions to the ground-state-band (g.s.b.) with a reduced hindrance of fν=33. A plot of fν values for all ∆K=7, E1 transitions ...

Nuclear isomers: stepping stones to the unknown

The utility of isomers for exploring the nuclear landscape is discussed, including their role in superheavy-element research, and the possibility of observing neutron radioactivity. Emphasis is given to K isomers in deformed nuclei. Transition rates are examined in the NpNn scheme for 2and 3-quasiparticle K-isomer decays, and in connection with level densities for higher quasiparticle numbers.
